Bees, Trees, & Beans @ BBG

This past weekend Deep Routes spent some time at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden for their 41st Annual Making Brooklyn Bloom Conference where we tabled and offered a workshop on vanilla called Bees, Trees, and Beans: Stories of Vanilla’s Ecological Interdependence.

Vanilla is one of the plants featured in the Deep Routes Core Curriculum and very much so relies on its ecological kin (e.g. trees, bees, humans, etc.) to thrive. In this workshop we went over some of vanilla’s origins, migrations, and complex stories that have brought it to our kitchens and medicine cabinets.

Thanks to BBG and our Patreon Supporters for making it possible to get supplies for these types of workshops, and if you want to access the print-outs and slides from the session consider joining our patreon here.

We also tabled up in the Rotunda where there were seed giveaways and other gardening orgs, and we had our own little giveaway of Deep Routes merch! If you didn’t win one of our denim aprons or totes you can purchase them here.
